Even you can exhibit at the Ramsey County Fair!

Do you have a special pickle recipe? Are your quilts works of art meant to hang on a wall rather than cover a bed?  Do your kids know a thing or two about rockets? Are you nervous about exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair and want to have a test run first? Consider exhibiting at the Ramsey County Fair! Exhibiting at the fair is easy, and prizes are awarded for a chance at friendly competition among neighbors.

First, in order to exhibit, you will need to have a project in mind which was made or grown by you, the exhibitor, between August 1, 2012 and July 9, 2013 (July 10 for foods). Next, you will need to register to exhibit the project. The fair’s website, www.ramseycountyfair.com, contains the 2013 Exhibitors’ Handbook which contains hundreds of categories to enter, such as gardening, woodworking, painting and scrapbooking, to name a few. Complete and mail an entry form to the fair office no later than July 1.

You must deliver your project to the fairgrounds for judging between 5 and 8 p.m. on Monday, July 8, or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9. There are also specific times for food and horticulture entries, so please consult the general rules for those exhibit times. The exhibits remain on display at the fair for its duration and can be collected on the evening of Sunday, July 14, or the morning of July 15.

Exhibits are judged competitively in comparison to other exhibits in the same category and same age group, as well for creativity and originality. There are three age groups: age 15 and under, age 16 to 64 and age 65+.  Also offered this year, in partnership with the St. Paul Public Schools, are exhibit classes for students who attend schools or are home-schooled in Ramsey County.  Student exhibits in the school category will be judged on their individual merit with completion and presentation of their projects created inside or outside of school, but are not competitively judged against one another.  It is a great opportunity for students to present their projects and gain experience in face-to-face judging.

The Ramsey County Fairgrounds are located at 2020 White Bear Ave., Maplewood. Admission to the Ramsey County Fair is free. The dates of this year’s fair are July 10-14. For more information, please call the Ramsey County Fair office at 651-770-2626 or go to www.ramseycountyfair.com for a complete fair schedule. We hope to see you there!
