St. Paul firefighters responded to a call of a house on fire at 578 Point Douglas Road S. in the early hours of Monday, March 10.

They arrived at the scene to find the home totally engulfed in flames.

\The four adult residents of the home managed to flee the house, though they suffered minor smoke inhalation and cuts.

They were treated at the scene by paramedicts before being transferred to Regions Hospital.

In order to put out the fire, firefighters had to find a fire hydrant several blocks away and run a hose to the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.

Authorities estimated the value of the destroyed house at $128,000, in addition to $6,000 in damage to two vehicles at the home.

Smoke detectors were reportedly functioning, but due to a lack of sprinklers in the home there was no way to control the fire.
