Public input wanted on Lake Elmo Wedding Ordinance

The Lake Elmo City Council seeks taxpayer input on a zoning text amendment for wedding ceremonies to be conducted areas of the community zoned “rural residential.” The current zoning code only allows such activities in “agriculture” or “rural transition zones.” In the past couple of years, there have been three requests for venues to host wedding ceremonies due to the natural beauty of Lake Elmo.  The city council is currently considering an ordinance that would allow for wedding ceremonies only (no receptions) for events that have a maximum of 200 guests. These events would be authorized under an interim use permit to allow for staff review on the effect of such events. If you should have questions, comments or concerns about this proposed zoning change please contact Community Development Director Kyle Klatt at 651-747-3911 or email him at by June 15, 2015.
