39ers rout Rosetown

After a couple of rainouts, the North St. Paul 39ers were finally able to play a baseball game Thursday, June 30 at CHS Field when they faced the Rosetown Post 542 Rockets.

North St. Paul used 13 hits and five Rosetown errors to gain the 13-2 triumph in American Legion District IV action.

The 39ers scored early and often in the six-inning rout. It only took to the top of the second inning for North St. Paul to put what turned out to be the game-winning runs on the board.

On the mound for the 39ers was Zach Lauzon, who allowed just three hits and had nine strikeouts in the game that ended via the 10-run rule.

In the top of the second Joey Baumann led off with a rope line-shot into left field, and Dylan Foote replaced the catcher as a pinch runner at first base.

Jace Piepgras then sent a hard-hit ground ball up the middle. Louie Varland put a sacrifice bunt on the ground and beat the peg to load the sacks with 39ers.

Vaughn Pouncey reached on a fielder's choice as Foote was forced out at the plate. After a strikeout, Nate Rubbelke singled into left field scoring Piepgras. Jake Steckler followed with a single up the middle and Varland along with Pouncey came home.

Adam Hildebrandt cracked a single through the left-side hole to score Rubbelke and Steckler, and the 39ers were up 5-0.

In the top of the third the 39ers added another run when pinch-runner Foote took advantage of an error and scored on a ball hit by Varland,.

In the fourth inning Rubbelke and Steckler crossed home plate, pushing the count to 8-0.

Then the 39ers put the game out of reach in the sixth when they added five more runs to expand their lead 13-0.

Finally, in the last of the sixth the Rockets were able to get on the board with two runs.
