St. Anthony junior claims conference ski title

Xavier Mansfield has spent the entire school year attending St. Anthony Village High School but he just recently joined the Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony Village boys Nordic ski team. Because of a peculiar Minnesota State High School League bylaw, Mansfield skied with his old school until earlier this month.

Not long after joining SLP/SAV, Mansfield competed in the Northwest Suburban Conference championships and brought home the individual pursuit championship.

Mansfield, a junior, won the title by a little more than a second and a half. His pursuit time was 29 minutes, 58.39 seconds while junior Ian Ivens of Champlin Park finished second in 31 minutes, 35.33 seconds. Mansfield posted the fastest times in both the skate and classic races.

As a team, Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony finished seventh. Champlin Park took home the conference team championship. In the girls; competition, Robbinsdale Armstrong ran away with the team title while SLP/SAV finished 12th.

Mansfield entered the conference meet ranked No. 2 in the state and goes after a state berth on Wednesday at the Section 5 meet at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis.
