RAHS boys hockey falls in section quarters

The Roseville Area High School boys hockey team saw its season come to an end in the Section 4AA quarterfinals on Feb. 20 at Aldrich Arena. The Raiders fell 4-1 to Suburban East Conference rival White Bear Lake.

Neither team entered the post-season with much momentum. Roseville had gone 1-3-1 in its final regular-season games while White Bear Lake entered the playoffs riding a three-game losing streak.

White Bear Lake wasted little time in taking control of the contest. The Bears scored just 2:20 into the game and finished the first period with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

White Bear Lake continued to dominate in the second period. It scored at 4:42 to make it 2-0 and outshot the Raiders 9-5.

In the third, the Bears added two more tallies to make it 4-0.

Roseville avoided the shut-out when Jeremy Suciu scored with 26 seconds left in the game. Joey Hughes provided the lone assist on Suciu’s goal.

Roseville goalie Marshall Murphy made 19 saves in the loss while his White Bear Lake counterpart Brandon Dornfeld stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced.

The victory gave White Bear Lake the season series over the Raiders. The two teams split their two regular-season meetings.

White Bear Lake went on to lose 4-0 to top-seeded Stillwater in the semifinals. Stillwater and Hill-Murray met Feb. 26 for the section title, after the deadline of this edition of the Review.

The state tournament runs Wednesday through Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.
