Tartan, Hill-Murray claim MEC lacrosse titles

The final week of the regular season in Metro East Conference lacrosse was a bit quiet but there was some news made. Tartan wrapped up an undefeated conference schedule to claim the boys conference title outright.

The Titans had secured at least a share of the MEC crown when they beat Mahtomedi on May 19. To claim the title as theirs and theirs alone, they needed to follow up the Mahtomedi victory by beating North.

Tartan took care of that on May 23 as it steamrolled the Polars 23-4. Sam Lindahl, as he has just about all season, had a monster game with four goals and six assists for 10 points, his highest single-game output of the season.

Andrew Henderson added six goals and Bradley Herzog scored five times. Wyatt Toll got in on the hat trick action with three goals while Jacob Hartzell scored once and added three assists.

Carter Wold led North with three goals and Sean Martin came up with the Polars’ other marker.

The Section 4 playoffs began May 31 with the play-in game but the seeds for the tournament were not available for this edition of the Review. Based on the www.minnesota-scores.net QRF rankings of the teams in the section, Tartan appears to be in line for the No. 1 seed.

The Titans will open the post-season on June 2 at home. The tournament continues with the semifinals on June 4 and the championship game on June 7 at Roseville Area High School.

Hill-Murray girls

The Pioneers didn’t need any victories in the last week of the regular season to secure any title. They had already wrapped up the Metro East girls crown with an unblemished 8-0 record in league play.

Hill-Murray, whose only loss this season was to Bloomington Kennedy on April 29, looked to close out the regular season with its winning streak intact. The Pioneers did just that by taking down Roseville 14-12 on May 25.

Following the Kennedy defeat, Hill-Murray won its final nine games and heads into the post-season on a major roll.

Hill-Murray and Stillwater appear to be the top two teams in Section 4 based on records. Both squads are 12-1.

The section tournament started with the play-in game on May 31 and progresses to the quarterfinals on June 2. The semifinals are June 4 and the championship game is June 7 at Roseville Area High School.
