McCauley takes home girls PGA Warrior Cup trophy

Isabella MCauley of Inver Grove Heights beams as she holds the state girls Junior PGA Warrior Cup trophy, which she won in a three-way playoff.

Isabella McCauley of Inver Grove Heights is a winner of the 2016 Minnesota Junior PGA Warrior Cup presented by Valspar.

This was an invitation only event at Pebble Creek Golf Club for juniors, ages 13-15, who had previously won an event on the Minnesota Junior PGA’s Junior Tour earlier this summer.

McCauley, a 12-year-old receiving a special exemption to play with the older juniors, shot a 3-over 75 to finish in a three-way tie for first in the Girls Division with Molly Stevens of Northfield and Ava Wallerich of Lake City. This forced a playoff amongst the three girls for first, second and third place.

“I went into the playoff trying to get pars,” said McCauley. “I knew that if I was able to get a birdie, that would most likely win it.”

She was right. McCauley birdied the first playoff hole on her way to the title. Stevens would eventually defeat Wallerich in a playoff on the next hole to finish in second place.

It is not hard to tell that McCauley has a bright future ahead of her. “To be a 12-year-old playing with the older kids and win, it is a huge confidence booster,” she said.
