Concordia Academy rolls in volleyball playoff opener

The volleyball teams from Concordia Academy and DeLaSalle appear destined to meet in the section final for the second consecutive season. The top two seeds had little trouble in winning their section playoff openers last week.

Concordia, the No. 2 seed, dispatched 15th-seeded FAIR School in three games and lost only 13 points. The Beacons won 25-6, 25-3, 25-4.

Top-seeded DeLaSalle had a similar match in sweeping 16th-seeded International School. The Islanders lost only 15 points in the 25-5, 25-8, 25-2 victory.

The Tri-Metro Conference rivals have already faced each other once this season. In their regular-season tilt back on Sept. 15, DeLaSalle won the first two games before Concordia Academy roared back to take the match by winning the final three games.

The Section 5AA quarterfinals were Oct. 28, past the deadline for this edition of the Review. The playoffs continue with the semifinals on Nov. 1 and the championship match on Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. at Holy Angels in Richfield.
