League unveils local housing study

The Roseville Area League of Women Voters will release its study of affordable housing and its availability in Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Maplewood and Roseville at its Tuesday, April 18 meeting. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Autumn Grove Park Building, 1365 Lydia Ave. W. in Roseville. Findings will be presented again at a recorded viewing of the program at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3115 Victoria St. N. in Roseville. Both events are free and open to the public.

The ten-member League committee that has been interviewing housing experts and studying this issue for the past year will present its findings and recommendations. The League has a long history of advocating for equal opportunity and economic justice for all, including affordable housing.


DFL east metro 

senior caucus

The DFL east metro senior caucus meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at Sgt. Pepper’s Bar and Grill, 930 Helena Ave. N., Oakdale. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. April 13. Lunch is on your own, but there is a free door prize drawing. The DFL East Metro Senior Caucus purpose is to inform, educate, advocate and lobby on behalf of seniors — and have some fun. 

Upcoming topics include threats to Medicare and Social Security, redistricting vs. gerrymandering, campaign finance reforms and disclosure, transportation issues facing seniors, beyond Affordable Care Act and MNsure, keeping active for seniors, how to avoid financial exploitation, housing on a fixed income, how to keep Facebook pages private and health care for seniors.


Waffle breakfast bar

The Guardian Angels Men’s Club is hosting its popular waffle breakfast bar on April 23 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come for all you can eat waffles, toppings and sausages. Adults are $9, kids 6-12 are $5 and kids 5 and under eat free. Guardian Angels Catholic Church is located at 8260 4th St. N., Oakdale. 


Sen. Susan Kent hosting listening session 

Sen. Susan Kent (DFL-Woodbury) will be hosting a joint listening session with Rep. JoAnn Ward (DFL-Woodbury) to discuss the on-going 2017 legislative session. The meeting will give Senate District 53 residents an opportunity to meet with their legislators and discuss any legislation or issues they’d like to see addressed this session. The listening session will be held April 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Landfall Community Center, 4 4th Ave, Landfall.

Washington County Horticulture Society meeting

The Washington County Horticulture Society will meet April 17 at 7 p.m. Rhonda Fleming Hayes will speak on “Pollinator Friendly Gardening.” Ms. Hayes is the author of “Pollinator Friendly Gardening” and a master gardener. She also writes for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and the Northern Gardener magazine. Copies of her book will be available for sale at this meeting. The Wash. Co. Hort. Society meets at Hope Church, 7910 15th St. N., Oakdale. All are welcome with no fee.



The Guardian Angels Women’s Club invites you to Wonderland, the annual spring salad luncheon on April 29 from noon to 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and we ask that you bring a salad to share (we’ll provide a serving spoon). Oakdale’s citywide garage sale registration open

The warmer weather brings to mind spring, and spring brings to mind garage sales.  Oakdale’s annual citywide sales will be held May 4, 5 and 6.  Persons wishing to be included on the garage sale list should call Cathy Hannigan at Oakdale City Hall 651-739-5086 by April 28.  There is no cost to participate.
