The B-Dale BBQ Contest is Aug. 5

The fifth-annual B-Dale BBQ Contest is Saturday, Aug. 5 in Roseville at the B-Dale Club at 2100 Dale St. N.

“Come down, dinner will be served at 4:30, we want a lot of people,” says Beth Salzl, a Kansas City BBQ Society-certified master barbecue judge and one of the organizers of the event.

Salzl says 21 teams are signed up to grill — “We’re in the big leagues now” — and the contest offers a unique opportunity for meat-eaters to try some food  they wouldn’t normally get to nosh.

“You rarely get a chance to eat competition barbecue unless you judge,” she points out.

A plate of ribs and two sides are $12 each and there’s a cash bar at the event, which will be held rain or shine.

Cooking kicks off in the early afternoon, with spectators welcome to see the grill masters in action, while the barbecue judging begins at 3 p.m. Local band Potluck and the Hot Dishes performs 2-4 p.m.

Salzl, a B-Dale Club member since 1984, says all money raised at the barbecue contest, after expenses are covered, goes towards supporting the club and local charities in Roseville.

For more information about the contest go to www.mnbbqsociety.com, hit the “contests” tab and select “backyard contests.”
