A driver crashed his Chevy Tahoe into the Hy-Vee in Oakdale Oct. 31, striking the rental video dispenser, shelving and products displayed in the front of the grocery store.
According to Oakdale police, first responders determined that the 52-year-old driver was unconscious during the crash due to a medical situation.
There were no indications drugs or alcohol were to blame, said Oakdale officer Ryan Stuart. The grocery store is located in the 7100 block of 10th St. N.
Witnesses told police it seemed that the Tahoe was accelerating before the crash, Stuart said, though police don't know exactly how fast the SUV was going upon impact.
The Oakdale police and fire departments responded to the crash, which occurred just before noon on Halloween day. The driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
No pedestrians were hit by the vehicle, though one man was injured by flying debris from the crash. He was treated and released at the scene.
Hy-Vee management declined to comment on the incident. After only a couple hours, almost all signs of the crash had been removed or cleaned up.
