Warm coats needed for ex-prisoners

Jehovah Lutheran Church is collecting winter coats for just-released prisoners re-entering society. Gently used large, XL and XXL coats, jackets and other winter clothing are welcome. Donors can place items in the CrossingHOME shopping cart in the church’s donation center, indoors and to the left of the Thomas Avenue entry. The church is at 1566 Thomas Ave. in St. Paul. Drop off items Sundays before or after 10:15 a.m. worship or call the church at 651-644-1421 to set up another time. 



Christmas tree sale in Lauderdale

The Lions Club of Falcon Heights/Lauderdale is celebrating its 31st year of selling Christmas trees. Head to Lauderdale Community Park on the corner of Roselawn and Cleveland avenues to find a great tree for your home. The sale is now open evenings and weekends. Your purchase allows the club to support many organizations in the community, including Lauderdale’s community events. 


Sons of Norway Xmas Party

The Sons of Norway will host their Christmas party and monthly meeting at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church on Dec. 4 starting at 7 p.m. Bring a dessert to share. Christmas carols will be sung in English and Norwegian with lyrics provided. Gift donation in an unmarked brown paper bag is encouraged. New Neighbor’s Club holiday coffee

If you are a woman who is new to the area, have had some life changes, or would just like to make new friends, go to the New Neighbor’s Club holiday coffee gathering on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Shoreview Community Center. New Neighbors Club is a friendship club for women in the northern suburbs offering outings, interest groups, speakers, community service and more. New members are welcome. Roseville Historical Society Christmas potluck

The Roseville Historical Society will hold its annual Christmas potluck on Monday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Fireside Room at the Roseville Skating Center. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and a group of Sweet Adeline singers will entertain at 7 p.m. All are welcome to bring a dish to share and enjoy the special evening of food and entertainment. Door prizes will be awarded. The skating center is located at 2661 Civic Center Drive in Roseville.


Quit smoking class held in Roseville

NAMI Minnesota, a part of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will hold a free class on smoking cessation in Roseville. Learn information, strategies and resources to help with quitting. Topics include information on coping skills, asking for support, preventing relapse and FDA-approved medications. Additionally, interested individuals will have the opportunity for a one-on-one personalized feedback session with carbon monoxide monitoring and a free quit kit. A Walgreens pharmacist will also be available to help answer questions. This is a one-hour class for people with mental illnesses who are interested in learning how to quit smoking. Mounds View Lions/Edgewood Leos waffle breakfast

The Mounds View Lions and Edgewood Leos are holding a waffle breakfast at Edgewood Middle School on Dec. 3 starting at 9 a.m. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12 and free for 5 and under. There will be a drawing for a 55-inch teddy bear, which costs $5, as well as a Santa appearance for pictures. Waffles, sausages, milk, juice and coffee will be served.
