Phalen Freeze Fest

The annual celebration of winter, Phalen Freeze Fest, returns to Lake Phalen on Saturday, Feb. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. The free, family event includes a variety of activities, most held outside, so make sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing. Activities will take place near the Phalen Lakeside Activity Center, 1530 Phalen Drive.

Youth from Urban Roots will perform the “Legend of Shingebiss” at 2 p.m., Tips Outdoors will provide the opportunity to try ice fishing, and visitors can practice their fire building skills with Wilderness Inquiry. Other activities include boot hockey with JCNSP Polar Devils Youth Hockey, cooking food over a fire with the Phalen Recreation Center staff, trying a kicksled with Ramsey County Parks, taking a “Story Walk” with St. Paul Public Libraries, snowshoeing with St. Paul Parks and Recreation and playing at the salt table with Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District. If there’s enough snow, there will be snow caves as well. More information can be found at www.bitly.com/freezefest2018.
