SNAPSHOTS: New Brighton firefighters save cat from tree

A cat lounging on a perch high up in a tree sounds like a serene sight for a passerby, but for the feline’s loving caretaker, as it was for a young New Brighton resident on June 4, it can be a cause for distress.

New Brighton Department of Public Safety Director Tony Paetznick said an officer passing by that evening was flagged about a cat stuck in a tree.

Whether a cat in a tree really needs saving is a question that was not lost on the department, as pointed out in a Facebook post, which also shared the idea that perhaps first responders interrupted the cat while it was “enjoying the view.”

But the heightened concern from the little citizen was also not lost on passing officer Thai Xiong, who called the New Brighton Fire Department. Paetznick said firefighters arrived and used a fire truck ladder to retrieve the cat and, as the Facebook post says, reunite it with the young resident.
