NEWSBRIEF: Free meals available to area children this summer

This summer, area school districts are again participating summer food programs. The districts will provide free breakfast and lunch meals at various locations to all children 18 and under. 

Inver Grove Heights Schools is, once again, participating in the USDA Summer Food Service Program. Meals at those locations will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Free meals will be served at the following locations:

• Heritage E-STEM Magnet School, 121 W. Butler Ave., West St. Paul

Breakfast: 7:30 to 9 a.m.

Lunch: 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

June 12 to July 5: Monday 

through Friday except July 

4 and 5

July 8 to Aug. 15: Monday 

through Thursday

• Somerset Elementary School, 1355 Dodd Road, Mendota Heights

Breakfast: 8 to 9:30 a.m. 

Lunch: 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

July 8 to Aug. 1: Monday through 


• Hilltop Elementary, 3201 68th St. E., Inver Grove Heights

Breakfast: 8:15 to 9 a.m.

Lunch: 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Monday, June 17 through 

Friday, Aug. 2

No meals July 1 through 4 and 

Fridays except July 26 and Aug. 2

• Salem Hills Elementary , 5899 Babcock Trail, Inver Grove Heights

Breakfast: 8:15 to 8:45 a.m.

Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Monday, June 17 through 

Thursday, Aug. 1

No meals on Fridays and July 1-4

• Inver Grove Heights Middle School, 8167 Cahill Ave, Inver Grove Heights

Breakfast: 7:10 to 7:45 a.m.

Lunch: 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Thursday, July 18

No meals on Fridays and July 4


The Summer Food Service Program, which ISD 197 is participating in, assists local organizations, such as schools, to operate programs providing nutritious meals and healthy activities for children during the summer months when school-year nutrition and activity programs are unavailable.
Free meals are also being offered by YouthPrise at Wentworth Library Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m., June 10 through Aug. 30 – it will be closed July 4. Wentworth Library is located at 199 E. Wentworth Ave. in West St. Paul.
