NEWSBRIEF: Home maintenance for seniors

North East Seniors for Better Living is expanding their free Home Maintenance Program due to a grant from the Catholic Community Foundation. The Home Maintenance Program offers free small home repairs to seniors living in northeast St. Paul, with the goal of helping more seniors live comfortably and safely at home. Over the past year volunteers have helped repair leaky faucets, replace light fixtures, clean gutters, repair handrails, and do other small home repairs for more than 200 seniors. This additional grant will allow North East Seniors to expand the program even more, buy more supplies, and increase the number of repairs offered.

“Seniors often experience limited eyesight and hearing and reduced mobility,” said Marj Ebensteiner, North East Seniors board chair. “Good lighting, working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, stairs and handrails in good repair, and similar features help provide a safer environment for seniors, lessen the chances of injury, and allow more seniors to stay in their homes.” Know a senior who could benefit from free home repair services?
