Arden Hills

Brush and run

A 30-year-old Shoreview woman told police the night of Aug. 13 that a bearded man driving a van hit her car as they took of from a stoplight on County Road F at Lexington Avenue. The man’s van brushed against her car’s back right fender, causing moderate damage. The man didn’t stop.

 

Burglaries

A 59-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man who live in the 1800 block of Chatham Avenue told police the morning of Aug. 12 that their home had been burglarized overnight while they were there. The burglar rifled through their unlocked vehicles in the driveway before likely using a garage door opener to open their attached garage, before entering their home through the garage service door. The prowler stole a purse, credit cards, wallet, cash, laptop and keys from the home. The credit cards were used after the burglary and police are investigating.

 

A 73-year-old man who lives in the 1700 block of Chatham Avenue told police the afternoon of Aug. 12 that he’d awoken that day and found his garage service door into his house propped open by a shoe and his outer garage door open. The garage door opener was missing from his car. Nothing appeared out of place or missing; the man figured the burglary happened between 1:30 and 7 a.m.

 

A 67-year-old woman who lives in the 1500 block of Colleen Avenue told police Aug. 19 that someone had entered her home over the weekend while she was out of town. She found drawers and doors left open though nothing seemed to have been taken.

 

Take the air gun

A 58-year-old Shoreview man handed over an air pistol for destruction Aug. 12 at the sheriff’s office patrol station in the 1400 block of Paul Kirkwold Drive.

 

 

Falcon Heights

Cut screen, no burglary

A 46-year-old man who lives in the 1400 block of California Avenue told police Aug. 15 that someone had cut the screen on a rear window to his house and then tried to jimmy the window in an unsuccessful attempt to get in. A neighbor told police they’d seen someone working on the window the evening of Aug. 12.

 

Cut screen, stolen car

A 25-year-old man who lives in the 1700 block of Arona Street told police the morning of Aug. 15 that someone cut the window screen to his kitchen, crawled in and took his keys and stole his car overnight. A 21-year-old St. Paul man, likely before it was known the car was missing, was stopped driving the vehicle at 4:30 a.m. Aug. 15 and arrested for DWI and possession of stolen property, among other charges. The car was impounded.

 

Happenstance robbery arrest

A man at a business in the 1500 block of Larpenteur Avenue the morning of Aug. 16 called the cops after a 20-year-old St. Paul woman who’d previously robbed him in St. Louis Park walked into the place. He confronted her and she fled but deputies found her at another nearby business and arrested her. She and her vehicle were handed over to SLP PD.

 

Lotto tickets heist

Someone demanded and then stole lottery tickets from the Speedway in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue the night of Aug. 16 and took off in a car. It’s an open case.

 

 

Lauderdale

If it’s too good to be true ...

A 59-year-old woman told police Aug. 8 she’d fallen victim to a secret shopper scam involving her sending cash to an unknown person for payment that turned out to be a bad check. She’s out $2,000.

 

Sordid tale

Officers tried to stop a vehicle for speeding Aug. 10 on Larpenteur Avenue at Highway 280 but stopped the pursuit for safety. They found out the driver of the vehicle had been involved in the theft of fuel at a Larpenteur Avenue gas station, and that the person behind the wheel was wanted in connection to a Minneapolis shooting earlier that day. The owner of the car, a Minneapolis resident, told police that their 13-year-old daughter had taken the car, and then it was taken from her by the wanted shooter. Law enforcement later tracked down the vehicle in question, but not the driver. Police are investigating.

 

Unlocked vehicle

A 29-year-old man told police Aug. 9 someone entered his unlocked vehicle while it was in an underground garage in the 1600 block of Pleasant Street and stole $180 worth of stuff.

 

 

Little Canada

Asleep at the wheel DUI

A 33-year-old Blaine man was found by deputies slumped over the wheel of his car just before 7 a.m. Aug. 11 on the southbound exit ramp from Interstate 35E to Little Canada Road. He was arrested at the scene for DUI and the case was turned over to the State Patrol.

 

Barking dogs

A caller from the 3300 block of Twin Lake Court reported the ongoing issue of three dogs that bark all day the afternoon of Aug. 12.

 

Brother’s keeper

Police headed to the CVS in the 2600 block of Rice Street the morning of Aug. 16 on a theft report. Once there, they located a man who matched the person described to dispatch. The man gave a name and birthday and while he looked like the photo on file for that person, he eventually admitted he’d given police his brother’s information because he had warrants out for his arrest. The man, IDed as a 23-year-old from Arden Hills, was arrested for giving false information to police and the warrants. While the man told police he’d intended to steal from the store, he said he’d been caught and given up the goods so he was not charged for theft.

 

Lock it

A 36-year-old woman who lives in the 2800 block of Rustic Place told police Aug. 13 that someone entered her unlocked car in her underground garage and stole a garage access card and vehicle documents from it. The theft happened sometime in the two days previous to the report.

 

Radio theft

Deputies took a report of a stolen portable radio from a company vehicle in the 2800 block of Arcade Street North the morning of Aug. 12. Someone smashed the driver side window of a locked vehicle to steal the radio.

New Brighton

Lifted luggage

A 40-year-old man told police the night of Aug. 21 that he was unloading items from a luggage cart into his room at the Hilton Homewood Suites in the 1800 block of Old Highway 8 and that while he was in his room someone stole an Army backpack containing two computers and an iPad Mini. Witnesses said they saw a man in his mid-40s walk out with the backpack; the victim said he might hit up friends in the FBI to help track down the computers.

Scrappers

A 25-year-old man who works at the moving company in the 500 block of First Street SW told police the night of Aug, 18 that someone stole the catalytic converter from one of his vehicles and the entire exhaust system from another. It’ll cost up to $700 to fix both. Scrap metal collectors/thieves sell the exhaust parts to unscrupulous buyers because they contain precious metals.

 

Stolen gun

A 22-year-old man who lives in the 2900 block of Mississippi Street told police Aug. 15 that someone had stolen his pistol and three magazines of ammo from his car as it was parked outside his place. He’d placed the gun in a range bag in the trunk and then left town for several days. When he came back it was gone. He thinks the car was locked and there was no damage to the vehicle. It’s a loss of $765.

 

Stolen heirloom

A 66-year-old man who lives in the 3000 block of 13th Terrace NW told police the morning of Aug. 16 that someone in the past 10-or-so months had stolen his father’s 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers pennant ring. Dad had played on the team, and the family heirloom is valued at $12,000. The man said he’d had utility people and cleaners at his home in the past year.

 

Stolen mail

A resident who lives in the 1400 block of 17th Avenue NW told police the afternoon of Aug. 21 that someone stole their outgoing mail, which included a check for $60.

 

 

Shoreview 

Burglary for energy drinks

Someone broke into the Island Lake Golf Course pro shop in the 1000 block of Red Foxx Road as discovered in the early morning hours of Aug. 15 as deputies responded to a sounding alarm. The burglars stole three energy drinks from the cooler. A K9 officer tracked the scent of the thief to Interstate 694 and Victoria Street, where the trail went cold.

 

Smashed windows

The evening of Aug. 13 a 73-year-old Arden Hills man and a 39-year-old Blaine woman told police their cars had been broken into while parked at the Island Lake Golf Course in the 1000 block of Red Fox Road that afternoon. The man said his phone had been stolen, and the woman reported the loss of a flower bag, check book and work ID.

 

Stolen cars, both with keys inside

A 78-year-old woman who lives in the 3500 block of Harriet Avenue told police the afternoon of Aug. 15 that someone stole her 2004 Honda Accord, which had the keys inside it, from her open garage that afternoon.

 

A 71-year-old woman who lives in the 4200 block of Sylvia Lane told police Aug. 16 that sometime in the 24 hours prior someone had stolen her 1998 Toyota Corolla, which had the keys inside it, from her garage. She’d also left her purse, credit cards, checks and some cash inside the car.

 

 

St. Anthony

A theft at a funeral

A 41-year-old woman reported Aug. 6 the theft of memorial cards and an unknown amount of cash assumed to be inside them that happened during a funeral at Nativity Lutheran Church in the 3300 block of Silver Lake Road.

 

All that glitters is not gold

A 37-year-old woman told police Aug. 6 she was out $5,230 after purchasing jewelry on the Internet that she thought was gold — it was gold-plated.

 

Bar burglary

Someone broke into the sports bar in the 3700 block of Stinson Boulevard as discovered Aug. 6 when an employee showed up to open the place. The burglar got in by smashing a window. Management is going to turn over security footage to police.

 

Friends like these ...

A 56-year-old man who lives in the 2500 block of Kenzie Terrace reported Aug. 10 the theft of his 2018 Chevy from the apartment building parking lot. The man used the My Chevy app to find it — the vehicle had been abandoned in Minneapolis and witnesses provided a description of the person who’d taken it. The man said that two female acquaintances who were staying at his apartment might be able to help ID the thief; one of the women said they’d let a guy into the apartment who then took the car keys. Police have two possible suspects.

 

Slashed tires

A 65-year-old man who lives in the 3200 block of Edgemere Avenue told police Aug. 6 that someone had punctured two of his car’s tires — they cost $100 to repair.

 

Warrant arrest

An off-duty officer Aug. 6 recognized a 38-year-old man with a felony warrant for criminal sexual conduct who had fled from officers during a prior incident getting food at the Subway in the 2900 block of Pentagon Drive and called 911. More officers arrived and arrested the man, though while he was being searched he ran off while handcuffed. He was eventually arrested again and taken to the Hennepin County Jail, where he was booked for fleeing police in a motor vehicle, felony escape from custody, and two felony warrants. The first was for criminal sexual conduct out of Martin County, the other was for a harassment restraining order violation out of Goodhue County
