Roseville track and field’s magic number: 400

The number 400 seemed to be a common theme for the Roseville Area High School track and field teams at last week’s Section 4AA meet. Four of the Raiders’ six entrants in this week’s state meet qualified for events with “400” in the name.

Raiders go 2-2 in post-season

For the Roseville Area High School fastpitch softball team, .500 seemed to be its destiny this season. The Raiders finished the regular season with an even record and did the same in the post-season.

Beacons fastpitch survives first three rounds

The Beacons were among the final four teams in last year’s Section 4AA playoffs. The fastpitch softball team has a chance to reach that spot again this season if they can pull off an upset on Tuesday.
Concordia began the week as one of six teams still vying for the section title, and a win over DeLaSalle on Tuesday would match last year’s playoff run.

Concordia girls take second at conference track meet

A second-place finish at the conference track and field meet isn’t too shabby of an accomplishment. That’s what the Concordia Academy girls pulled off last week.
The Beacons amassed 96 points to beat out third-place St. Croix Lutheran by 12 points and take runner-up honors at the Tri-Metro Conference meet on May 13 at Macalester College.

Concordia Academy Beacons play three games in 22 hours

The Beacons picked up their first conference victory of the season on Saturday and will look to build on that win this week.
Concordia Academy completed a whirlwind 22 hours by beating Breck 6-0 on Saturday morning/afternoon. Saturday’s game, played at Breck, started at 11 a.m., which, when coupled with Friday’s two games, meant that the Beacons played three games in less than 24 hours.

Senior battery leading the way for Beacons fastpitch

Courtney Larsen

After making a nice run in the section playoffs last year, the Concordia Academy fastpitch softball team faced a number of questions as this season approached. The Beacons graduated a bunch of seniors off last year’s squad so there were some holes.
As head coach, Gina Tupper began to assemble a roster, two positions seemed pretty well locked up and they are two of the more important spots on the field--pitcher and catcher. Seniors Courtney Larsen and Claire Heilman wasted little time showing the new players the way.

Pitching depth a strength for Concordia nine

Most baseball teams’ successes start with its pitching staff, which appears to be the strength of this year’s Concordia Academy squad. The Beacons return their entire staff, including a pair of senior starters, from last year.
“Pitching will be our strength,” said Concordia head coach Eric Schutte.”We don’t have anyone who will overpower on the mound but all keep the ball down and hit their spots.”
