Local food shelf receives generous donation from Rotary Clubs

The Lake Elmo Rotary Club presented the Christian Cupboard Emergency Food Shelf a $21,700 check March 7, to help the nonprofit purchase new refrigerators and freezers.

Hill-Murray receives $3 million scholarship fund in remembrance of graduate


submitted photo • The Mark. C. Nyman Scholarship was established with the help of Jeanne Nyman in memory of her late husband. She’s pictured above with Hill-Murray President Jim Hansen. According to Jeanne, Nyman, a member of the Hill High School class of 1969, suffered from severe asthma as a child, but was an adventurer at heart. Despite illness, he persistently lived life to its fullest, as a child and as an adult. In addition to developing a successful business career in the medical field, Nyman became a world traveler, scuba diver and sail boat captain.

Maplewood’s Hill-Murray School recently received a $3 million gift, the second largest it has ever received, which will be used as a scholarship fund to help support 20 students each year.

Third grader fires officer’s holstered gun at Maplewood school; no injuries


Aundrea Kinney/Review • A school liaison officer was talking with students at Harmony Learning Center in Maplewood Feb. 5 when a child stuck his finger into the officer’s gun holster and pulled the gun’s trigger. The gun fired into the floor but no one was hurt.

No one was hurt by an unintentional gunshot fired Feb. 5 when a third grader pulled the trigger on a police officer’s holstered gun at the Harmony Learning Center, a special education school in Maplewood.

Car with two dogs inside stolen from Maplewood gas station

The stolen car has damage on the rear driver’s side bumper and a Minnesota license plate with the number 2DG309.

Dogs safely returned home the following day, but thief still at large.
