New mayor elected in West St. Paul

Incumbents top challengers throughout northern Dakota County
Tuesday's election left the makeup of most municipal bodies very much the same in northern Dakota County, except for West St. Paul.
The St. Paul suburb will have a new mayor come January, unseating John Zanmiller who's served in the city's top spot since 2005. A Hennepin County Corrections career probation/parole officer, Zanmiller also served on the council for two years prior to his mayorship.

More crude graffiti reported in Mendota Heights; reward offered


A mailbox was vandalized recently in a spree that included vulgar and sexually explicit images and words scratched and spray-painted into vehicles and houses in Mendota Heights. A $500 is being offered for information. (Submitted photo)

An effort to nab vandals who spray-painted racial slurs, sexual images and expletives on vehicles, homes and mailboxes in June has been reinvigorated, due to yet another crude image splashed on a Mendota Heights home.

State bolsters flood recovery in Dakota County

West St. Paul recently chalked up another goal in saving the city's ice arena. Mendota Heights and School District 197 each pledged $555,333, a third of the cost to revamp John V. Hoene Ice Arena.
