For most people, the name Andrew Lloyd Webber is associated with Broadway hits such as  “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats“.  However, among Webber ‘s plays is a lesser -known, beautifully haunting musical called  “Whistle Down the Wind,” and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in North St. Paul is currently presenting it.

Hill-Murray Theatre will present “Little Shop of Horrors” on Oct. 10-12 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.

Century College is one of six colleges in the country that has been awarded a federal grant to help train veterans and military families for jobs in the transportation industry.
Century will receive $120,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District is launching new programs this fall so that students with young children and former students have a better chance to earn their high school diploma.
A daycare center for young children whose mothers are students will open in September at the District Education Center in North St. Paul. It is a partnership with the YMCA and designed to prevent young parents from dropping out. It will offer parenting classes as well, said community education director Chuck Erickson.
The district will also begin offering another new program at Harmony Learning Center this fall so adults between the ages of 18 to 21 who didn’t complete high school will have an added opportunity to earn their diploma.

The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School Board approved a  budget for the 2013-14 school year at its regular meeting last month.
Minnesota statute requires the school board to approve the district’s revenue and expenditure budgets for the next school year before July 1.
The budget outlines expenditures at about $160.5 million, and revenues projected at about $154.1 million.
