Johnson High School alumni donate bench to the school


The Denissons spent about 100 hours constructing the bench and donated about $4,000 worth of materials. The bench can seat some 20 people and a commemorative plaque will be added next spring. • submitted photo

As a way to mark their 50-year class reunion, members of the Johnson High School class of 1966 wanted to create or donate something to the school. 

They decided on a bench, and not just an ordinary wooden bench, but a big stone “J.”

Marjorie Otto photos/Review • As a part of the sister city relationship St. Paul has with Changsha, China, five “Peanuts” sculptures will be sent to Changsha as a part of a gift exchange. The city of Changsha will give St. Paul a replica of its famous Aiwan Pavilion, to be installed at Lake Phalen Regional Park.

The “Peanuts” characters are going to China.

Hillcrest Golf Club to close, development likely


After 96 years on the East Side, Hillcrest Golf Club will close Oct. 31. The St. Paul Pipefitters Union Local 455, which owns the course, is planning to sell it to developers

The Hillcrest Golf Club, a longtime fixture in the Northern Hayden Heights neighborhood on the East Side, recently announced to members that after 96 years it will be shutting down.
