One local football coach has decided to hang up the whistle and put away the playbook after 46 years of coaching and five state championships at the high school level.
There are two local high school basketball teams that will look to their upperclassmen to help stay relevant throughout the year and for a shot at the state tournament.

The Concordia Academy Beacons volleyball team finished the 2018 season with a record of 27-5 and took fourth place at the state tournament in St. Paul on Nov. 10.
3 players receive all-state accolades
The Concordia Academy volleyball team finished fourth in the Class AA volleyball state tournament at the Xcel Energy Center on Nov. 10.
The North High School volleyball team had an opportunity to punch its ticket to the state tournament on Nov. 1 against the Stillwater Ponies at Washington Technology Magnet School in St. Paul.
The Concordia Academy volleyball team finished second at the Class AA state tournament Nov. 12. The team included Rachel Terhaar, Brooke Weichbrodt, Taylor Brunn, Sally Paul, Kira Fallert, Lydia Lecher, Sarah McTaggart, Anika Neuman, Arika Robinson, Erin Fallert and Abby Miggler.
For the second consecutive year, the Concordia Academy volleyball team concluded its season by playing for a state championship.
The Roseville Area High School volleyball team saw its fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament end short of its goal. The Raiders went 0-2 in the Class AAA tournament.
