Historic schoolhouse opens

The Oakdale Lake Elmo Historical Society is holding a series of open houses so adults and children can tour the restored one-room District 12 Schoolhouse. Admission is free and volunteers will be on hand to give tours and explain what it was like to attend school with all grades in one room. The District 12 Schoolhouse, built in 1888 and used until 1920, is the last one-room schoolhouse in the former Oakdale Township..

Open house dates are Aug. 26 and Sept. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. There will also be an ice cream social Sept. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. For special tours for school, scout or other groups, contact Jim Morphew at 651-738-1811 or Duane Ellertson at 651-739-7152.
