Lyla T. Hicks

Lyla T. Hicks passed away Sept. 21 at her home in New Brighton. Lyla Tighe was born in Madelia, Minn., in 1929 to parents Lyle and Esther Tighe. After graduating from Madelia High School in 1947, she attended classes at Mankato Commercial College. She then moved to Minneapolis and started a career in banking, most notably with the 1st State Bank of New Brighton, eventually becoming executive vice president and serving as a board member. Lyla also worked at Sahara Investment Company, which was founded by former 1st State Bank of New Brighton owner Harold Pohlad.

Lyla was a lifelong devoted parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church in New Brighton and served as a Eucharistic Minister and many other roles.

She was preceded in death by infant children, Stephen and Cecelia; her parents; brother, Earl Tighe and sister, Sharon Palmer; brothers-in-law, Alan Hanson, Peter Carney and Lee Palmer.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Lucy) Hicks of Bemidji; daughters, Joan (John) Boone of Burnsville and Gloria (Marty) Guinee of Stillwater; grandchildren, Christopher, Clay, Greg, Tony, Lara, Kate, Adam and Lauren; sisters, Sharlene Hanson of Coon Rapids and Charlotte Carney of Florida; sister-in-law, Barb Tighe of Morgan; nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian burial was Sept. 27 at St. John the Baptist Church in New Brighton with burial at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
