In Memory of Reverend Donovan A. Bakalyar

Donovan A. Bakalyar, 98, beloved husband of Arla Mae, died on Aug. 31, at the Care Center in Grand Marais, Minn. He is survived by his wife; son, Donovan (Anne); daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Bradish; daughter-in-law, Linda Bakalyar; stepchildren, Susan (Paul) Kajmowicz, David (Mary) McKinstry and Connie (Ric) McKinstry-Symak; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Friedman, Benjamin (Kourtney) Bakalyar, Joshua (Juliann) Bradish, Sarah (Nick) Trivisanno, Ashley (Matt) Morgan, Seth and Jacob Cook, Marina (Chris) Brindel and step grandchildren, Greg Kajmowicz, Stacey (James) Wilson, Julia (Adrian) Varao and Patrick McKinstry. He was also blessed with nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, in 1984, his son, Timothy, in 1993, his daughter, Cheryl Cook, in 2009, his son-in-law, Fred Cook, in 2010, and his brother, Stephen, and sisters, Leona Parkovich and Viola Matias.

Reverend Bakalyar spent 53 years serving Lutheran congregations in Fort William, Ontario; Palatine, Ill.; Iron River, Mich.; and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Circle Pines, Minn. Memorial services were held at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Thunder Bay, Ontario on Sept. 15 and will be held at Concordia Cemetery in Hammond, Ind., on Sept. 22, at noon.
