55+ Driver Improvement
The Minnesota Highway Safety Center offers a 55+ Driver Improvement Course on the following days:
• Jan. 7 (4 Hour Refresher Course) from 6 to 10 p.m. at AAA Maplewood, 1727 Beam Ave, Maplewood

People age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. The fee for the four-hour refresher course is $20 and the eight-hour course is $24. First time participants must complete the initial eight hours of training and a four hour refresher class every three years to maintain the 10 percent discount.

Pancake breakfast
The Knights of Columbus #4374 will hold a pancake breakfast at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 6133 - 15th St. (Harvester) in Oakdale on Jan. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon. All-you-can-eat pancakes will be served with scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, orange juice and coffee or milk. Take-out is also available. The cost is: adults, $7; children 6 to 12, $5; 5 and under, free. Proceeds go to the Little Sisters of St. Peter Claver.

Tea and recipes
The next seasonal tea at the Bruentrup Heritage Farm, 2170 E. County Road D, Maplewood, is slated for Saturday, Jan. 12. As always, the Maplewood Historical Society, which hosts the event, has a theme based on cherished mementos. This tea's theme: "Old Family Recipes."
Attendees will not only enjoy tea and treats, but are asked to bring a favorite family recipe from years past to share with the group. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for guests 15 years old and under; seatings are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Baby storytime
Baby storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 5 at Oakdale Library, 1010 Heron Ave N. in Oakdale. The program is for children up to 24 months and caregivers and siblings are welcome. Experience rhymes, songs, toys and books. No registration required. Call the library with questions, 651-730-0504.

Belly dancing
A "Learn at the Library" mini class for adults: "Belly Dancing," will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Oakdale Branch Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N. in Oakdale. Start the New Year with a bang, or a jingle. Instructor Beryimar Perozo will lead you through the beautiful moves of this Middle Eastern style of dance.
