More than 90,000 vehicles cross the St. Croix River Bridge every day -- making it the most heavily used Minnesota-Wisconsin border crossing. That number swells to 150,000 once you reach downtown St. Paul.

County tackles recycling in parks, along streets
Soon there'll be a lot more junk in our parks - noticeable junk, anyway.
After discussions with all 17 of its cities, Ramsey County got such an enthusiastic response to queries that it aims to move ahead with ordering 2,000 public recycling bins that its 13 interested cities can disperse as needed.

Not since Amelia Earhart crossed the Atlantic has there been this much enthusiasm for a flying machine.
On July 24, a local team of amateur aviators (and one real pilot) shattered the Red Bull Flugtag world record for flying a homemade flying machine during competition on Harriet Island in St. Paul.

Previous Peschges police encounter detailed
Former Hill-Murray president Joseph Peschges, who has been charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure after his July 15 arrest at Crosby Farm Regional Park in St. Paul, was also arrested in 2004 for disorderly conduct, according to a report obtained from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department.

Judge denies Beecroft post-conviction hearing
A new trial request from Nicole Beecroft, the now 21-year-old convicted of first-degree murder for the death of her newborn baby in 2007, was denied July 20.
Washington County District Judge Mary E. Hannon, who presided over Beecroft's murder trial, handed down the order denying the motion for a new trial.

Facebook fans rally around endangered DQ
Nearly 900 Facebook members have rallied to show their support of a local Dairy Queen.
The small Dairy Queen, located at 1720 Lexington Ave., near the intersection of Lexington and Larpenteur avenues in Roseville, was recently designated one of the Top 10 Most Endangered Historic Places by the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota.

Country Sun Farm owners file lawsuit against city
The owners of Country Sun Farm and Greenhouses in Lake Elmo have filed a federal lawsuit against the city, claiming Lake Elmo is stifling their ability to make a living by enforcing an ordinance that doesn't allow the farm to sell agricultural products grown outside the city on their property located off Highway 36.

Maplewood seeking funding to replace ailing bridge
The Frost Avenue bridge in Maplewood is currently a sore sight. Chunks of it are falling off, reinforced bar supports are corroding and city worker say it needs to come down and a new bridge constructed.

Maplewood City Engineer Michael Thompson said the bridge was constructed in 1930 and has been deemed "structurally deficient" by state inspectors.

Lake Elmo family's prized goats killed by dogs
When Bonnie and Mark Augustine of Lake Elmo woke up on April 25 and looked out a back-yard window, they were shocked to see a scene of bloody carnage.
Three of their prized goats were dead, and two others were so badly injured that they had to be euthanized.
