Man charged with attempted murder of South St. Paul police officers

A 33-year-old man was charged July 20 with attempted murder for allegedly shooting two South St. Paul police officers the day prior.

Ground broken for China garden at Lake Phalen


file image • Construction of a replica of the famous Aiwan Pavilion, in Changsha, China, will begin in the next few weeks at Lake Phalen Regional Park, following a July 14 groundbreaking ceremony.

Visitors will be able to watch Chinese craftsmen work in next few weeks

Semitrailer strikes teenage bicyclist in Lake Elmo

A semitrailer ran into a 14-year-old girl who was bicycling in Lake Elmo the morning of July 9. 

Shortly after the accident, the girl was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Defibrillator bought by residents saves resident’s life


Solomon Gustavo • Carol Mogren with a picture of her late husband Skip at Cub Foods in New Brighton July 12. Mogren and other New Brighton residents gathered to remember the time in 2006 when Skip was saved from sudden cardiac arrest by a defibrillator at Cub Foods.

New Brighton residents gathered at Cub Foods on Rice Creek Road on July 12, where a plaque commemorating the life, and life-saving event, of Skip Mogren was hung.

Swastika sprayed on New Brighton church’s shed


Solomon Gustavo • A swastika, washed off though still barely visible, was sprayed in fire extinguisher powder on a shed next to the community garden at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton sometime over the first weekend in July.

A congregant of Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton reported to the New Brighton Department of Public Safety on July 8 that someone had broken into a shed next to the church’s community garden.
