Bradley leaving downtown North St. Paul; three storefronts will be open

A fixture on North St. Paul’s main street for 12 years, Greg Bradley is finally moving out.
Bradley, who owns the building at 2533-2535 East Seventh Ave., has hosted businesses in its three suites ranging from a plumbing fixtures showroom to retail motorcycle accessories and clothing, a succession of cafés and snack shops, a knitting shop, a collectibles store and a portrait studio.

Police memorial vandalized

The St. Paul Police Department’s Eastern District reported that the Sgt. Bergeron Memorial was vandalized sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 22.  
The memorial, which sits at the intersection of Arlington Avenue East and North English Street, was covered in white paint.

North St. Paul council considers data-driven development

North St. Paul’s leaders are considering a $50,000 proposal to help them track what area residents eat, drink and buy and how they can use that information to attract and support retailers.
The North St. Paul City Council had its first glance at what a national data-gathering company can offer at a workshop Nov. 19. With better information on where residents and people from neighboring cities shop and find services, the city hopes to drive retailers and restaurants to pick the city as a development site. The Economic Development Authority will review the proposal in January.

Priest charged with 4th degree CSC

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday afternoon it has charged the Rev. Mark Andrew Huberty with criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree. The priest, head pastor of Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic in Maplewood, is accused of having a sexual relationship with an adult woman he had been counseling.
The Twin Cities Archdiocese says Huberty has denied the allegations.

Jeffery Trevino sentenced to 27.5 years in prison

Jeffery Trevino of St. Paul was sentenced to 330 months, or about 27 1/2 years, in prison at a hearing in Ramsey County Court Nov. 25.
A courtroom full of family members, volunteer searchers and journalists watched as Trevino entered the room, looking solemn and wearing an orange Ramsey County jail jumpsuit.

Maplewood police hopes public can identify burglary suspect

The Maplewood Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a burglary suspect shown in a video prying a safe off a counter top at a senior-living facility in early November.
The male suspect stole a safe that contained various keys for room doors and storage cabinets at The Homestead at Maplewood, 1890 Sherren Ave., around 2 a.m. on Nov. 7.

Maplewood police close case against Oakdale priest

 

Nearly two years after a priest at an Oakdale Catholic church accepted a $120,000 check from an elderly man, the Maplewood Police Department ended the criminal investigation against him where no charges were ever filed.

Judge rules Oakdale shooting suspect incompetent to stand trial, again

For the third time since March, Nhan Lap Tran, 34, of Oakdale has been declared mentally incompetent to stand trial on charges for shooting at cars and causing the death of 9-year-old Devin Joseph Aryal in February.
